Independent  Film Casting

custom casting for modern filmmakers

Long before color grade, festival strategy, or distribution, casting determines whether an audience believes the world you built. Bad casting cannot be edited out in post, but good casting elevates everything it touches.

Chaos Casting was created to make the classic Hollywood casting process accessible to independent filmmakers, without losing the taste, rigor, or creative collaboration that makes the process worthwhile in the first place.

That process starts with a real conversation with the entire creative team to discuss each character in depth. Once it's built, the breakdown goes to agents and managers.

For a feature at any budget, the average lead role brings in 1,000 to 2,000 submissions. Every one gets considered before self-tapes and pre-reads go out to a strong first round. I watch every tape, then narrow it into a curated playlist for you and your team to choose from to go forward for further consideration. Callbacks, producer sessions, and chemistry reads run live or virtual, whichever the production needs.

Once the right person's clear for each role, I handle the offer and negotiation on the production's behalf from start to finish, keeping every role within budget and closed on schedule.

before submitting

Every film operates differently, so casting plans get built around budget, union status, cast size, schedule, and location rather than a flat rate posted online, always protecting the quality of the process.

Chaos Casting is deeply familiar with emerging and established talent across the U.S. and internationally, from Los Angeles to New York and beyond. We love working with filmmakers at the beginning of something gorgeous.

At this time, indie film casting is intended for projects that:

  • are fully financed

  • have an estimated shooting window

  • are entering pre-production

  • have a completed script

  • are focused on classic, creative, audition based casting
